Starlink Account vs Wi-Fi Password — What’s the Difference?

Comparison between Starlink Account password and Starlink WiFi password

If you’ve just set up your Starlink Mini and you’re not sure which password goes where, you’re not alone. Starlink uses two completely different passwords — one for your online account, and another for your local Wi-Fi network. They do very different jobs, and mixing them up can make setup or troubleshooting confusing.

Here’s a simple guide to help you keep them straight.

🧭 1. Starlink Account Password

What it is:
Your Starlink account password is used to log in to the official Starlink website or the Starlink mobile app. This is the password that manages your billing, subscriptions, orders, and service details — not your router.

Where it’s used:

  • Logging into starlink.com or the Starlink App
  • Viewing or managing your Starlink plan, hardware orders, and account settings

How it’s created:
You set this password during initial signup when purchasing or activating your Starlink kit. It can be updated anytime under Account → Security → Change Password.

Important details:

  • Linked to your Starlink account, not your Wi-Fi hardware
  • Changing it will not affect your Starlink Wi-Fi connection
  • Managed and stored securely by SpaceX / Starlink servers

📶 2. Starlink Wi-Fi (SSID) Password

What it is:
This is the password your devices use to connect to the Starlink router’s Wi-Fi network — for example, “Starlink,” “Dishylink,” or whatever name (SSID) you’ve chosen in the Starlink App.

Where it’s used:

  • When connecting phones, tablets, laptops, or other devices to your Starlink Wi-Fi network

How it’s created:
You set this password during the initial Starlink setup using the app.
You can change it anytime:
Starlink App → Settings → Wi-Fi Configuration

Important details:

  • Controls local Wi-Fi access only — not your billing account
  • Resetting your router will restore the default SSID and password printed on the unit
  • If you ever forget it, you can reconnect through the app or perform a factory reset
