Instructions - Dishy Mini Mount

Dishy Mini Mount Installation Instructions

Your mount arrives fully assembled and ready to use. These instructions cover magnetic mounting on vehicles, bolt-down installation on roof racks, and inserting your Starlink Mini.

Quick Install Guide – Magnetic Mounting

What's Included

  • Dishy Mini Mount (fully assembled)
  • 4 × Top Caps (pre-fitted)
  • 4 × Thumb Nuts (pre-fitted)
  • 8 × M6 20mm Hex Bolts
  • 4mm Allen Key (stored in base)
  • Tracker Holder (AirTag/Samsung/Tile – as selected)

Installation Steps – Magnetic Mount

  1. Prepare Your Vehicle
    • Clean the roof surface where you'll place the mount.
    • Remove any dust, dirt, or debris that could affect the magnetic hold or damage paint.
    • Ensure the surface is steel – magnets won't hold on fibreglass, aluminium, or plastic.
Tip: Get in the habit of giving the magnetic feet and your roof a quick wipe with a microfibre cloth each time you mount up. Takes 10 seconds and keeps everything in top condition.
Note: For non-magnetic surfaces, see our Stainless Mounting Discs with VHB tape.
  2. Remove Top Caps
    • Unscrew the 4 thumb nuts by hand.
    • Lift off the 4 Top Caps and set aside.
  3. Insert the Starlink Mini
    • Place your Starlink Mini face-up into the mount cradle.
    • Ensure the Mini sits flat and centred.
    • The cable exit should face the direction you prefer for routing.
Tight fit? This is normal — we use tight tolerances for a secure hold. Give the Mini a gentle tap on the bottom edge near the tracker holder to seat it fully into the cradle.
Mini won't seat properly? On rare occasions, the corner pieces may need realignment. Here's how:
    1. Turn the mount over (magnets facing up).
    2. Locate the 8 × M6 stainless steel bolts on the underside.
    3. Back each bolt off a few turns — just enough to allow the corners to move slightly.
    4. Turn the mount back over and place the Starlink Mini in the cradle.
    5. With the Mini seated, tighten the bolts evenly to lock in the correct alignment.
  4. Secure with Top Caps
    • Place each Top Cap over the corners of the Starlink Mini.
    • The lip on each Top Cap faces downward to grip the Mini's edge.
    • Hand-tighten the thumb nuts – firm but not overtightened.
  5. Position on Vehicle
    • Lift the mount using the carry handle.
    • Place on your vehicle roof – the 4 neodymium magnets will grip firmly.
    • Position the handle toward the rear of the vehicle for best aerodynamics.
Important: The 4 magnets provide 72kg combined pull force. When removing, lift using the handle – don't try to slide the mount sideways.
  6. Run Your Cable
    • Route the Starlink cable through a window, door seal, or dedicated cable entry.
    • Avoid pinch points and hot exhaust components.
    • Leave enough slack for the dish to be removed without disconnecting.
✅ Your Dishy Mini Mount is now installed and ready for action.

Alternative Installation – Roof Rack or Bolt-Down

If you're mounting permanently to a roof rack, roof platform, or custom bracket:

Tools Required

  • 4mm Allen Key (included)
  • Appropriate fasteners for your rack (M6 bolts or rivnuts)

Bolt-Down Steps

  1. Identify Mounting Holes
    • The base has M6 mounting holes at 232mm centre spacing.
    • With magnetic feet removed, 8 × M6 holes are accessible.
  2. Optional: Remove Magnetic Feet
    • If magnets aren't needed, remove them to reduce weight and expose additional mounting holes.
    • Each magnetic foot is secured with bolts from underneath – remove with the Allen key.
  3. Position and Secure
    • Align the mount over your rack crossbars or mounting plate.
    • Use M6 bolts (not included) or appropriate fasteners for your setup.
    • Tighten evenly in a cross pattern.
  4. Insert Starlink Mini
    • Follow Steps 2–4 from the Magnetic Mount instructions above.

Using the Built-In Features

Carry Handle

Use the handle to lift and position the mount. When travelling, position the handle toward the rear of the vehicle to reduce wind noise.

The handle can be removed if required – unscrew the bolts on each side using the included Allen key.

Tracker Holder

Your mount includes a holder for Apple AirTag, Samsung SmartTag 2, or Tile Pro (depending on your selection). The holder is located in the base – simply insert your tracker for peace of mind.

Allen Key Storage

A 4mm Allen key is stored in a holder built into the base. Use it for adjustments, removing the handle, or installing Dishy Armour.

Kickstand Cutout

The base has a cutout allowing you to use your Starlink Mini's built-in kickstand when the mount is placed on a flat surface – handy for ground-level setups.

Care and Maintenance

  • Wipe magnetic feet before each use to remove grit that could scratch paint.
  • Clean the mount with a damp cloth – no harsh chemicals needed.
  • Check thumb nuts periodically to ensure they remain firm.
  • Store in a dry location when not in use.

Adding Dishy Armour Protection

For protection against hail, stones, and branches, add Dishy Armour to your setup.

When installing Dishy Armour:

  1. Remove the 8 × M6 20mm hex bolts from the mount.
  2. Place Dishy Armour on top of the Top Caps.
  3. Use the longer M6 30mm bolts (included with Armour) to secure through Armour → Top Caps → base.

See the Dishy Armour Installation Instructions for full details.

Troubleshooting

Mount doesn't hold firmly:

  • Ensure surface is steel (test with a fridge magnet if unsure).
  • Clean both the roof and magnetic feet thoroughly.
  • Check for clear vinyl wraps or thick paint that may reduce magnetic grip.

Starlink Mini doesn't sit flat:

  • Check all 4 Top Caps are oriented correctly (lip facing down).
  • Ensure no debris is under the Mini.
  • Loosen thumb nuts, reposition Mini, and re-tighten evenly.

Wind noise at speed:

  • Position handle toward rear of vehicle.
  • Check all components are secure.
  • Consider adding Dishy Armour which can improve aerodynamics.
