What Happens When You Hit 100GB?

Updated January 2026: Starlink has changed how the Roam 100GB plan works when you exceed your data allowance.

Previously: Your connection was cut off entirely, and you could buy additional data at $1.50 per GB.

Now: When you hit 100GB, your speed drops to approximately 0.5 Mbps (similar to Standby Mode) for the remainder of your billing period. You get unlimited data at this reduced speed - you're not cut off completely.

The per-GB top-up option has been removed. If you need to restore full speed after hitting 100GB, your only option is upgrading to Roam Unlimited ($195/month).

Usage Alerts: Starlink now sends notifications when you reach 80% (80GB) and 100% of your data allowance, so you won't be caught off guard.

For most travellers, this is actually a better deal - you still have basic connectivity even if you burn through your allowance, rather than being completely cut off.

How to Change Your Starlink Plan
